William Clarke College has been announced the recipient of a $50,000 Schools First Local Impact Award.

The award recognises the outstanding community partnership William Clarke College has established with Glenhaven Green (retirement village) and various other community services. The core partnerships were established as part of the College’s Service Learning Program and have been in areas such as aged care services, volunteer services, emergency services organisations and special needs schools.

The Service Learning program allows students to learn about paid and unpaid service providers and work on a project which benefits the wider community, learn new skills and develop attitudes they would not necessarily gain from their mainstream classes.

Brought to life by NAB in partnership with The Foundation for Young Australians and the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), Schools First is a three year commitment by these organisations to recognise and promote excellence in school community partnerships.

Today, the College was presented with the $50,000 Schools First Local Impact Award novelty cheque by NAB. Teachers and students of William Clarke College were at the service as well as community partnership representatives from Glenhaven Green.
