From microscopic discoveries to immersive adventures, Science Week was a wonderful invitation for our Secondary students to look closer, think bigger and discover just how fascinating the world around us can be.
Taking their learning beyond the College, William Clarke College was among just 12 schools selected to showcase exemplary Science education initiatives at NSW Parliament House, with two Year 10 students sharing their innovative projects with policymakers and education leaders. From a rocket developed collaboratively as part of the Aeronautics and Space Exploration course to an early cancer detection prototype, their work was a wonderful reflection of the ingenuity and imagination flourishing in our classrooms. Back on campus, a university-grade scanning electron microscope gave students an extraordinary glimpse into a world invisible to the naked eye, revealing intricate pollen grains, butterfly wings, fly eyes and tiny salt crystals.
Year 9 students also stepped into the shoes of mining professionals through the NSW Mining Virtual Reality Experience, exploring cutting-edge careers in engineering, geology and technology. They also got hands-on with rocks, minerals and metals, discovering how the resources beneath our feet become the products we use every day.
In the Primary School space, the scientific fun will be celebrated in Week 10 when students take on a Robot Battle Challenge using Sphero RVR robots inspired by a Doctor Who Dalek.
With this year’s theme, Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All, what an amazing reminder of the curiosity, creativity and wonder that can grow when young minds are given the opportunity to explore God’s incredible creation.
