Pastoral Care

At William Clarke College the Pastoral Care of students is designed to develop lifelong learners keen to maximise their academic, spiritual, cultural, physical and social potential.  Pastoral Care is the responsibility of all members of the College community: staff, students and parents.  The College enables students to develop resilience, feel safe and have a strong sense of belonging to the College so they thrive socially, emotionally and academically.  Consequently students are less likely to bully and less likely to disengage from the learning process.

In Kindergarten to Year 4 each student is cared for directly by their classroom teachers.  Each morning prayers and devotions are conducted using the Bible and other Christian resources.  The classroom teachers are the first contact for parents who wish to raise any concerns or provide any valuable information about their child.  At enrolment students are allocated to one of four Houses: Arnold, Cowper, Leigh and Young which feed into Houses in Years 5 to 12.

In Years 5 to 12 every student is allocated to a tutor group of about 18 students.  These groups are either a Middle School or a Senior School tutor group. This small group meets with the Tutor each day and members get to know each other well. The Tutor is the first point of contact for students and a bridge between the home and the College.  Tutors use a combination of games and activities to help build cohesion within the tutor group as well as delivering a specific programme of pastoral care which covers such matters as citizenship, positive behaviour and relationships, constructive use of Information Technology and issues surrounding loss and grief and resilience.
